All is well in the world of electronic music – there’s a glut of sick breaks and electro releases at the moment. Breaks heads everywhere whinge about breaks DJs playing house and “diluting the scene”, blah blah blah – but how can mixing house and breaks be anything but beneficial? Anything can go stale if it’s left to stand for too long, and innovating new sounds doesn’t necessarily mean replacing established ones.

If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it.

If you think other people won’t like it, don’t play it.

People will always vote with their feet. I like this one, have a listen.

One of the great things about breakbeat is that you can fuse it with electro house and it’ll still sound huge. There’s a couple of examples of that in this offering; expect more of this in the future as my two main influences are breaks and electro house. Enjoy!

DB – Ableton Live Mix

direct download

Have a listen to this, the first of (hopefully) many mixes. To introduce myself a bit, I’m a music guzzling monster – as far as I’m concerned nothing is better than seeking out new tracks and playing them to yourself and others. It’s really that simple! I grew up playing the usual Britpop that shamelessly hogs all of the airtime on mainstream radio, and quickly got into hip hop once I grew out of that. A few years back hip hop became obsessed with image, and a seemingly endless flood of gold chains and drop top Bentleys concealed the good eggs left in the business. This is a shame, as good hip hop is still well and truly alive – it’s just been pushed further underground.

Now my main love is electronic music – anything that isn’t cheesy. Drum & Bass, Progressive, Electro & Breaks are my favourites out of the huge spectrum, but new sounds are being innovated all the time. This is what makes it such a great thing to be into.

As for this mix I went straight for the Breaks as this is what I’m mostly listening to at the moment. Nothing more to say really – enjoy!
