Summer Albums 4/4: King Roc

King Roc - Chapters

12_chapters-1

I must admit that I don’t know much at all about King Roc apart from some random mentions. Chapters is not really an album of individual songs but one huge long 80 minute ride of electronic soundscapes. It’s better than a lot of stuff out there right now.

Summer Albums 3/4: The Field

The Field - Yesterday & Today

the-field-yesterday-and-today1

The Field’s From Here we go to Sublime was such a great release, my favourite on that record being the song A Paw in my Face. The thing with The Field is that he manages to make minimal techno songs that are each very unique, so I wasn’t worried that this new release would seem like a rip off of Sublime. Also for some reason this song reminds me of a Lemon Jelly track.

Summer Albums 2/4: Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

I don’t really know how to define this music or specify its genre, especially because I rarely listen to this stuff. I would say that Grizzly Bear are combination of Rock and Pop. This music requires attention to get the most out of it; listen to it any other way and you’ll miss that which makes it interesting.  Personally if I’m listening to a record repeatedly and it’s of a genre I rarely care for, then I know I’ve stumbled upon something really outstanding.

Summer Albums 1/4: Mars Volta

Mars Volta - Octahedron

mars_volta

Which seems to have leaked already. The official release date is June 23. Comparing it Deloused in the Comatomium (the other Mars Volta that I’ve listened to the most) it is a lot less epic and more easy going, but classic Mars Volta nonetheless and highly recommended!

New Jay Z

jay-z

The first single from the highly anticipated Jay Z release Blueprint 3 has had it’s first airplay! The single is called D.O.A (Death of Autotune)

Perhaps Jay Z is trying to get rid of the autotune just as he tried with the skinny jeans fad?? Hmm, whatever the case check out the tune, it’s hot!

The Five One

daftpunk1

The Five One are a group like no other. Their sound is blessed with freedom, inventiveness, and true imagination. The quartet is rooted in Hip Hop but is never bound by conventional ideologies of hip hop or any other genre for that matter. They are like a cross between a pleasing Indie Pop/Rock band and the most innovative Hip Hop group you’ve ever heard.
Here are a few of tracks from their album The Five One - “5109: The Remix Album”. It’s worth checking out!
